Energy Management

RANDom thought: How is your energy flowing?

Energy, what does that even mean? The strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity.

During the pandemic, when the World shut down, I talked with people about how nice it was to slow down and focus on what is important in life. More time with family, more time to think and be still and quiet. I am not making light of the tragedies that happened during this time, lives lost, jobs lost, and lives turned upside down. I am only discussing one aspect that occurred during this period when we slowed down, whether we wanted to or not.

Fast forward (pun intended) to today; we are more than two years out from the beginning of the pandemic, and most of us are back to some sense of normalcy and work. Recently, I have noticed that the conversations are back to “oh, I am so busy,” and people are running faster than ever to catch up. With that as our backdrop, it begs the question, “how is your energy level”? It is steady, is it high, or is it like a rollercoaster going up and down throughout the day and weak? Most of us are riding on the rollercoaster.

How do we get off that rollercoaster and get on a fast-moving but steady train? Here are a few tips of mine. Pick one or two and let me know how it works for you.

Expectations: Be realistic about your goals and expectations. Know where you are going and have a plan.

No: Say no to those things and people who do not fit your goals and destination.

Excitement: Be enthusiastic about where you are going. Write it, speak it, live it every hour of every day!

Ready: Prepare today for tomorrow. Don’t let the day happen to you. Where do exercise, mediation, and healthy eating fit into your plan?

Group: Surround yourself with positive people. Don’t get caught up with negativity. Do a people inventory and move away from those that zap your energy.

You: Ultimately, your energy is your responsibility.

Remember, as my Grandfather always said, “Take time to stop and smell the roses”!Until we meet again, take care.

I will discuss this topic more in a FB live mini training on the private Career Cultivators site on Wednesday at 12:15. Join me there!
